Why is Ballet good for children?
Dancing at an early age develops a child’s ability to listen and coordinate their movements to the tunes and different rhythms in music. Music and dance provide the platform to develop a child’s creativity, imagination and confidence through social-interaction, play-acting, body discipline and balance, poise and grace. These benefits will see them through their growth into fine young adults.
At Joyful Steps & Rhythm, we offer the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Classical Ballet syllabus to children starting from the age of 3 years old. With over 13,000 members spread across 79 countries, the RAD is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training, the Rad is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisation in the world. RAD’s Board of Examiners conduct yearly examinations worldwide.
All our classes are conducted in a fun-filled and lively environment. Our classical ballet teachers are RAD registered, experienced and qualified. They teach with a passion for dance and love for children.
Our mission is simple: to nurture young aspiring children to fulfill their dreams as “Ballerinas” and experience dancing through joyful steps and rhythmic moves.
And introduction level to ballet, young children are introduced to the basics of ballet using an imaginative approach, focusing on coordination, music and imagination and simple stretching movements.
Minimum age : 3 years old
Duration : 45 mins
Format : syllabus-based and progressive, building upon the previous level, new techniques, musicality and repertoire will be introduced to deepen our student’s knowledge of ballet and enthusiasm in dancing.
Kinder Ballet – Foundation in Pre-Primary / Primary
Based on New RAD Syllabus, emphasis is on basic posture and discipline in creative exercises to develop flexibility, strength, musicality and coordination.
Creative themed-dance is injected into classes for a fun dance experience.
Minimum age: 4-5 years old
Duration: 60 mins
Kinder Ballet – Primary
This is a progression from Pre-Primary level. Exercises are structured to follow the RAD new syllabus to further develop the child’s ability to perform simple combinations of ballet steps and movement while maintaining clean body lines and posture.
Emphasis is at these levels are to ensure basic body alignment for a solid foundation in ballet
The Five Basic Position in ballet will be introduced at this level. Basic barre exercises such as plies, battement tendus, battement jetes, releves and jumps in 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions will also be taught.
Minimum age: 5 years old
Duration: 60 mins
Ballet Grade 1-2 – Duration: 90 mins per lesson (twice a week)
Class exercises at this level will include barre exercises and introduction of centre practices including plies, battement tendus, battement jetes, rond dejambe, fondus, releves, grand battement and jumps.
Focus is placed on building sound fundamental classical ballet training with emphasis on body alignment and strong footwork.
Ballet Grades 3-5 – Duration: 90 mins per lesson (twice a week)
For grades 3-5, students are introduced to more ballet vocabulary within each exercise at barre and centre practice. This includes warm-ups barre exercises from plies, tendus, jetes, rond de jambe, fondus, rond de jambe en’lair, frappes and petit battements. Each routine exercise is more demanding and is designed to strengthen and build the correct muscles in the feet, legs and upper body. There will be increased focus for slow adage exercises, petit allegro, medium jumps and pirottes in 4th and 5th positions. A most common technique understood by all is en pointe or as commonly used in children’s Ballet, ‘on tippy toes’ at the barre and centre releve, ballones, bourress, echappes and retires will be taught.
Classical Ballet Grade 6 and above – Duration: 90 mins per lesson (twice a week)
Training for Classical Ballet Grade 6 and above will be intensified as both knowledge of ballet and techniques will become more demanding.
Duration of classes will be extended to 1.5 hours per grade.
Ballet For Adults
Adult Ballet Fitness / Intro to Classical Ballet (non-syllabus)
Why achieve fitness and body wellness through Ballet? Ballet exercises build poise, grace, improve your posture and correct body alignment. It helps to tone & lengthen your core muscles resulting in a leaner & more elegant body shape. With soothing music, you will release tension and feel relaxed.
This course is for absolute beginners with no and little dance background. It introduces the 5 basic ballet positions and basic classical ballet movement. Some floor – barre works can be expected as foundation for body alignment and for progression to next level.
Be it an unfulfilled passion in dance or simply as a form of exercise to tone your body for a stronger and elongated muscle, you will find yourself with great improvement to body posture and coordination.
